Hello! I'm Ashwin.

Currently I am pursuing my PhD in Computer Science at the Institute for Visual and Analytic Computing, leading the research efforts in robotics as part of CORE Labs, focusing on Multimodal LLMs & Spatial Perception.

My research interests span Spatial Intelligence, Dynamic Scene Graphs, Embodied AI, and Mixed Reality. I am particularly interested in problems that leverage perception models to enhance autonomy and real-world decision-making for robotics.

I earned my Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from Czech Technical University in Prague (CTU) in 2020, where I defended my thesis, “Design of an Electromagnetic Gripper for Unmanned Aerial Vehicles,” at the Multi-Robot Systems group under Dr. Martin Saska.

I then pursued a Master's degree in Robotics at Technische Universität Dortmund, completing my thesis with the Robotics and Cognitive Systems team at Fraunhofer IML.

Research Vision

Embodied agents can perceive the world, but they still struggle to reason about complex spatial environments. My long-term research goal is to bridge structured world knowledge, multimodal foundation models, spatial memory and embodied intelligence so agents can understand, plan, and solve real world tasks.

Beyond research

Outside the lab I'm happiest outdoors — backpacking, camping, and in the ocean as a hobby surfer and PADI open-water diver. I love to read, shoot film photography and paint. Currently in Rostock, I'm learning to sail. On rainy days, you'll likely find me experimenting in the kitchen, listening to 80s rock, or reading a sci-fi novel.
